NASI GORENG PETE
Nasi goreng pete is a variation of the traditional Indonesian fried rice dish where the main ingredient is "pete" or "petai" (stink beans). It's known for its strong and distinctive aroma. Here's a recipe to make nasi goreng pete:
Nasi Goreng Pete Recipe
Ingredients:
- 2 cups cooked rice (preferably leftover and cooled)
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 200g chicken breast or shrimp, diced (optional)
- 2 eggs, beaten
- 1 cup pete (stink beans), peeled and halved
- 2 red chilies, sliced (adjust to taste)
- 2 tablespoons sweet soy sauce (kecap manis)
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1 teaspoon shrimp paste (optional)
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Sliced cucumber and tomato, for garnish
- Fried shallots, for garnish
- Lime wedges, for serving
Instructions:
- Heat the vegetable oil in a wok or large frying pan over medium heat.
- Add minced garlic and chopped onion. Sauté until fragrant and the onion turns translucent.
- If using chicken breast or shrimp, add them to the pan. Stir-fry until they are cooked through.
- Push the protein (chicken or shrimp) to one side of the pan and pour the beaten eggs into the empty side. Scramble the eggs until they are cooked.
- Mix the cooked eggs with the protein in the pan.
- Add the pete (stink beans) and sliced red chilies to the pan. Stir-fry for a few minutes until the pete is slightly softened.
- Add the cooked rice to the pan. Break up any clumps and stir-fry with the other ingredients.
- Drizzle sweet soy sauce and regular soy sauce over the rice. Add shrimp paste if using. Mix well to ensure the rice is evenly coated.
- Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Continue to stir-fry until everything is heated through and well combined.
- Garnish with sliced cucumber, tomato, and fried shallots.
- Serve hot with lime wedges on the side.
